Anthem by Ayn Rand

About the Book

A definitive dystopian novella, Ayn Rand places mankind at an unspecified date in the future where another dark age lurks. Anthem is a story full of symbology told by a narrator named Equality 7-2521, who writes about his life inside a tunnel under the Earth. Although raised like all other children, away from their parents in selected homes, he was born different with a curse that makes him question. The Science of Things that society teaches gives him hope to become a Scholar, but he was assigned to be a Street Sweeper. He accepts the lifestyle as penance, but curiosity kills his loyalty to the Council because inside the tunnel is something Unmentionable and certainly forbidden.
