If you have seen any of the multiple film adaptations of Jack Finney’s terrifying novel about pods who snatch the very soul of their human hosts, then you have read much of the book. A surprise waits at the end of this tale of a dystopic “paradise” enforced upon an unwitting human population, however. While every one of the film versions of The Body Snatchers leaves the audience gripped in the fear that things can never be stopped, Finney rejects this pessimistic view to offer profound hope for a better future.
