Distinguished, award-winning novelist Philip Roth is not exactly known as one of the kings of science fiction, so it should come as little surprise to learn that his peculiarly idiosyncratic dystopian novel was not set in some post-apocalyptic future, but an eminently recognizable present day America ruled over by rather familiar figure. That figure is the corruptible and corrosively corrupted elected President Trick E. Dixon and all his equally dystopic little rascals. Our Gang is routinely placed near the bottom of the list the works from this eminent man of letters, but is worth reading if only to gain insight into how some real people become such a self-parody that satirizing them is quite the monumental task.
