O.T. Nelson’s “The Girl who Owned a City” is set in a world where all people over 12 have been killed off by a virus, 10 year-old Lisa must take charge of a group of scared, roaming children, and protect them from rival neighboring gangs. The children in this tale are too young to have much knowledge of the adult world, such as how restore electricity, or start a monetary financial system. Lisa is ambitious enough to fortify a city for her group, and try to reconstruct society as they knew it. This book is a perfect introduction to dystopian fiction for younger readers!
